The Niger Delta activists forum CRS chapter yesterday 20th July, 2020 took to the street of Calabar the CRS capital to demonstrate their displeasure over the activities of the Niger Delta development commission (NDDC) vis a vis the ongoing investigation instituted by the national assembly and the forensic audit directed by Mr president, his excellency president mohammadu Buhari.
It’s no longer news that since the inception of the NDDC in 2001 as created by former president Olusegun Obasanjo, so much billions of Naira and dollars have been budgeted by successive government with nothing to show interns of development.
It’s even more disturbing that those who have been piloting the affairs of the commission have been members of the Niger Delta yet the environment has remained so underdeveloped.
It was on this premise that we felt as members as well as an active group in the region, it was worth while we lend our voices to the ongoing investigation and forensic audit of the commission to ascertain the real course of our problems.
Our message was very clear as we used the peaceful protest to reiterate our unalloyed support for the forensic audit and investigation committees, in ensuring that a proper job is done and results of the forensic audit be made public.
“l want to thank my members who in spite of the huge and very intimidating presence of security personnels in our protest venue they still put up a strong commitment because of the poor infrastructures in the Niger Delta subregion, Calabar/Odupani/ltu road to mention but a few”.
“let me also commend the professionalism of the Nigerian police, men of the SIB governor’s office as well as other sister security agencies, their conducts really demonstrated that democracy allows for peaceful and lawful assembly”.
“we will not sleep until our region is purged of these criminal elements who have come to deprive us of our collective heritage for their own personal benefits.”
